Brazil and Morocco have crossed paths only once before in FIFA World Cup history.

Brazil will begin their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign with a challenging Group C clash against Morocco at the New York-New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on June 13.

The Selecao enter the tournament with hopes of lifting a record-extending sixth World Cup title and will be eager to start their journey with a victory. Under the guidance of Carlo Ancelotti, Brazil boast one of the strongest squads in the competition despite the absence of several notable names. Rodrygo, Estevao, Eder Militao, and Wesley were left out of the final 26-man squad, while Neymar, although included, is expected to miss the opening fixture as he continues his recovery from a calf injury.

Morocco, meanwhile, arrive in the United States as one of Africa's leading football nations. The Atlas Lions have continued their rise on the international stage following their historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Although they initially suffered disappointment after losing the Africa Cup of Nations final to Senegal, a controversial aftermath eventually saw Morocco awarded the continental title.

The two nations have met three times in international football. Two of those encounters came in friendly matches, while their only World Cup meeting occurred in 1998, when Brazil secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Morocco.

However, it was their most recent encounter that grabbed global attention. Morocco recorded a historic victory over the five-time world champions, earning their first-ever win against Brazil and further cementing their reputation as one of the most dangerous emerging forces in world football.

Match Prediction

Brazil begin their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign as one of the tournament favourites and will be determined to make an early statement against Morocco. The five-time world champions possess exceptional quality across the pitch, combining attacking flair with defensive solidity. Their ability to dominate possession and create chances from multiple areas makes them one of the most dangerous teams in the competition.

Morocco, however, have established themselves as a formidable force on the international stage in recent years. The Atlas Lions are renowned for their defensive discipline, tactical organization, and ability to trouble elite opponents on the counterattack. They will be confident of causing problems for Brazil and securing a positive result in a highly competitive Group C.

Despite Morocco's resilience and fighting spirit, Brazil's superior depth, creativity, and firepower should ultimately prove decisive. Expect Morocco to remain competitive throughout the contest, but the South Americans are likely to find the breakthrough and start their World Cup journey with three valuable points..

Predicted Score: Brazil 2-1 Morocco.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international men's soccer championship contested by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA. The tournament will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026.[1] It will be jointly hosted by sixteen cities—eleven in the United States, three in Mexico, and two in Canada. The tournament will be the first FIFA World Cup to be hosted by three nations, and the first to include 48 teams, an expansion from 32 previously.

The United 2026 bid beat a rival bid by Morocco during a final vote at the 68th FIFA Congress in Moscow. It will be the first World Cup since 2002 to be co-hosted by multiple nations. With its past hosting of the 1970 and 1986 tournaments, Mexico will become the first country to host or co-host the World Cup three times. The United States previously hosted the World Cup in 1994. By contrast, it will be Canada's first time hosting or co-hosting the tournament. The event is returning to its traditional Northern Hemisphere summer schedule after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was uniquely held in November and December.

As the host nations, Canada, Mexico, and the United States all automatically qualified. Cape Verde, Curaçao, Jordan, and Uzbekistan will all make their World Cup debuts. Argentina is the defending champion, having won its third World Cup title in 2022.

Preparations for the tournament have drawn controversy, particularly over United States immigration and visa policies affecting qualified teams and their fans, Iran's participation during the 2026 Iran war, and FIFA's use of dynamic ticket pricing.
