This will be the first-ever meeting between Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina at a major international tournament, adding further intrigue to an exciting Group B contest.

Canada enter the tournament on the back of two encouraging warm-up matches, recording a comfortable 2-0 victory over Uzbekistan before playing out a 1-1 draw against Ireland. Under the guidance of Jesse Marsch, the Canadians have developed into one of the most exciting teams in international football. Their ability to transition quickly from defence to attack, combined with the technical quality throughout the squad, makes them a dangerous opponent for any side.

Playing on home soil will provide an added boost for Canada, with passionate local support expected to create a vibrant atmosphere in Toronto. The hosts will be determined to capitalize on that advantage as they look to begin their World Cup journey on a positive note.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, meanwhile, secured their place at the FIFA World Cup 2026 after a memorable qualifying campaign, highlighted by a stunning victory over European giants Italy in their decisive qualifier. The Dragons will be making their first World Cup appearance since their debut campaign in 2014.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international men's soccer championship contested by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA. The tournament will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026.[1] It will be jointly hosted by sixteen cities—eleven in the United States, three in Mexico, and two in Canada. The tournament will be the first FIFA World Cup to be hosted by three nations, and the first to include 48 teams, an expansion from 32 previously.

The United 2026 bid beat a rival bid by Morocco during a final vote at the 68th FIFA Congress in Moscow. It will be the first World Cup since 2002 to be co-hosted by multiple nations. With its past hosting of the 1970 and 1986 tournaments, Mexico will become the first country to host or co-host the World Cup three times. The United States previously hosted the World Cup in 1994. By contrast, it will be Canada's first time hosting or co-hosting the tournament. The event is returning to its traditional Northern Hemisphere summer schedule after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was uniquely held in November and December.

As the host nations, Canada, Mexico, and the United States all automatically qualified. Cape Verde, Curaçao, Jordan, and Uzbekistan will all make their World Cup debuts. Argentina is the defending champion, having won its third World Cup title in 2022.

Preparations for the tournament have drawn controversy, particularly over United States immigration and visa policies affecting qualified teams and their fans, Iran's participation during the 2026 Iran war, and FIFA's use of dynamic ticket pricing.
